Lines [online: { IN }tro of BEAST] combines online digital technology (Web App) and 3D rendering, as it digitizes the participants’ interactive processes and creates a fictional world inside the exhibition space with the use of projection.

The artwork reflects on the basic features found with online live streaming. “Streamers” are constantly digitizing, changing, and uploading themselves onto the Internet, with the content of the live streams impacted by the gazes of the viewers. Relying simply on the two simple steps of being “online” or “offline”, the data generated in abundance are no longer harmless or simple, as fame and greed become a part of the play. Slowly, the data turn into a “beast” in the virtual world. As the “beast” grows into a “giant beast” reared by clicks and views, it then “goes public” - or    becomes a publicly traded entity that occupies reality. These giant beasts, such as Facebook or YouTube, are now deep-rooted in people’s everyday lives. Forming a virtual world in the cyber space, they have evolved beyond being an interface and have become a part of the real world. Under this context, the “lines” (being “online” or “offline”) define these “beasts”, and these “beasts” have also broken through and stepped over those “lines”.

In Lines [online: { IN }tro of BEAST], the live stream viewers and visitors of the exhibition are all contributing to the data on the screen where the “beast” and the “lines” are manifesting. Through this interactive process, the artwork encourages people to contemplate further, for them to think about are they just looking at simple images presented before them on the screen, or perhaps, what’s before them is a perfect camouflage put on by the giant beast, before it pounces and strikes
